One of the most promising aspects of the Semantic Web is the ability to extend and enhance ontologies created by other people to provide new capabilities for your own projects. But with ontologies living out on the web, it can be difficult to develop local Semantic Web tools that work efficiently and effectively. Working locally with frequently used sets of ontologies from the web leads to the idea of sets of commonly used ontologies. In SWeDE, these are called libraries. Libraries are very flexible - they can be built using files from the web or from SWeDE, and once created, can be shared among different projects, so you don't have to keep re-importing commonly used ontologies.
